Overbar-Gantry

Amidst the picturesque landscapes of the Lake District, The Ullswater Inn stands as a beacon of revitalisation and charm. Following a meticulous multimillion-pound refurbishment, the inn welcomes patrons with a blend of traditional allure and contemporary comfort.

With a heritage spanning over 160 years, the Glenridding Hotel had long been an integral part of the local community, offering hospitality amidst the breathtaking scenery of the Lake District. However, the hotel suffered significant setbacks when it was inundated by floods three times within a fortnight in 2015, leaving it in need of extensive repairs and refurbishment. Following a meticulous 13-month renovation process, The Ullswater Inn emerged as a beacon of revival, reopening its doors on Valentine's Day. The transformation was not merely cosmetic but a reimagining of the inn's identity, blending tradition with modernity to create a welcoming space.

Stepping into the restaurant and bar area, guests are greeted by an ambience of understated elegance. Here, solid ash table tops in rich walnut finish provide a sturdy foundation for memorable dining experiences. These classic pub tops are paired with turned wooden refectory and Harley pedestal bases for a sturdy and traditional look.

Surrounding these tables are two main choices of bentwood furniture:

  1. Fan-back bentwood chairs, in either Panaz Aston Bottle Green or Skopos Kiri
  2. Bentwood No.10 Side Chair in Skopos Kiri with antique brass studding.

The mirrored ceiling and chandelier lighting, botanical curtains and patterned wallpaper capped with gold details and wood panelling all contribute to an air of country home elegance. The inn stands as a beacon of comfort and warmth with natural motifs that evoke the breathtaking countryside just beyond the windows.

““Having been shut since January last year, there was a definite air of anticipation as we got closer to the reopening, and it was lovely to hear people chatting warmly about the new look and what changes have been made. It really is a beautiful inn and I am just delighted that the doors are now open and we can get back to being somewhere that everyone in Glenridding can come in and enjoy.” Diane Lee-Lyons, General Manager”

In addition to revamping the communal spaces, the refurbishment project included a significant expansion of the inn's accommodation. By repurposing redundant areas and streamlining the layout, the room capacity increased from 36 to 57, ensuring that more guests could enjoy the tranquility and charm of the Lake District.

The bedrooms have Voip side chairs at the bedroom desks and Raja armchairs in Panaz Antique Smoke 501 & Paloma 693 Mulberry often paired with tables

Architectural metalwork elements

Architectural metalwork elements

The metalwork elements at The Ullswater Inn add a touch of rustic elegance and practicality. An overbar gantry provides functional storage and display space, while the antique bar top division rail enhances the bar's traditional charm.

Antique brass footrails offer patrons a comfortable place to rest their feet or peer over the bar at the selection of drinks beyond, while steel back arch trim adds structural integrity and visual interest to the space. Together, these metal accents contribute to the inn's distinctive identity, marrying form with functionality seamlessly. The reception arch also aids the flow of visitors with tasteful signposting.
